Covenant Dance Academy offers an after-school program where students can express their faith and creativity whilst pursuing their passion for dance and drama. While offering students a variety of the most popular dance styles, and incorporating modern music and movement, Covenant Dance Academy ultimately desires students to glorify God. This often requires a counter-cultural approach with the selection of age-appropriate music, choreography and costuming.

Free trial lessons are available, and enrolments are welcome throughout the year.

This graceful style is the foundation for all dance techniques. In this class dancers will learn positions and lines, how to travel, turn and jump as a dancer. Students enjoy the freedom, expression and beauty of dancing and learn the art of ballet.

Students wishing to sit an RAD examination will be individually assessed to ensure they meet the following requirements.

Students must:

  • Attend two syllabus classes a week.
  • Meet minimum age requirements.
  • Demonstrate a level of ability and knowledge of syllabus for the exam process to be both a safe and positive experience.

Please note that students wishing to work towards an award may also be encouraged to sit an internal examination to demonstrate their achievements.

Lyrical

Combining contemporary and jazz styles, students will learn to express emotional sentiment through movement and play with the dynamics of beats and lyrics. The class focus is on technique, floor work, stretching, tricks, pirouettes and improvisation, which allows the students to explore their own range of movement as well as combine it with the repertoire they learn in class.

Tap

This class will give students 'happy feet' as they create music and beats with their feet. Students will learn about rhythm, how to gain foot control and make a lot of noise in the process. If you are new to tap or have basic tap technique, then this class is for you.

Jazz

Jazz is a fun, energetic and dynamic style of dance. Students who have a lot of energy and want to get higher kicks and higher jumps love this class. The focus is on technique, kicks, lines, pirouettes, stretching as well as jumps and tricks. Join our Jazz classes and become a stronger and more skillful dancer.

Christian lyrical

Using current Christian music, students explore the lyrics and their link to the Scriptures to choreograph their own works.

A great way to explore their faith and learn choreographic skills.

K-Pop/Hip Hop

Students will focus on the basic technique of K-Pop which comes from popular Korean pop music and a few of the different genres within hip hop. Dancers will be taught tricks and moves to share with their friends. This class caters for both experienced dancers and those that have never danced before.

Dance Fitness

This is a fun fast paced class for gaining greater core strength and general strength for your dance technique. The focus is on contemporary floor work, strength exercises, balance work, technical routines, stretching and improvisation. The class is contemporary in nature, with a hint of hip hop.

Limber and Stretch

This class aims to extend dancers’ flexibility, muscle strength and awareness. Students use yoga mats, resistance bands and gym balls to help improve technique and improve muscle memory.

Drama and Musical Theatre

Students focus on acting and play-building and how to be effective and creative performers through drama games and activities. The Year 3 to 6 class will learn various drama skills and strengthen their confidence on the stage. Senior classes will explore the elements of drama and develop character building techniques.

All drama classes will focus on preparing scenes for the end of year Dance Academy Concert, with the main roles coming from our senior classes.

Students learn a combination of singing, dancing and acting techniques for an exciting performance in the end-of-year Dance Academy Concert.

This allows them to gain stage experience in multiple aspects of performing. Musical Theatre is wonderful for developing self-confidence and teamwork.

Students will strengthen their skills through various activities and theatrical games.
